Weaver, elder, and keeper of a chapel that took in strangers for sixty-one years. She spoke four languages and refused to be photographed in any of them.
“The candle knows nothing of the dark. It only knows how to burn.”
The Life, in Chapters
She learned to weave at seven and never stopped. The chapel's altar cloth, still in use, is the loom-work of her twelfth year.
For six decades her door was unlocked. Travellers, refugees, and lost children passed through — she asked nothing and remembered every name.
In her final winter she sat every night by the chapel door, waiting for a stranger she said had promised to return. He never did; she waited anyway.
